I am hopeful for character growth in book 2, though! I think sheвЂ™s set up for it. Nothing against Hollis or the book, it really does just boil down to my personal preferences. They tend to make impulsive decisions (as teenagers do) and as an adult, it frustrates me. She was fine, but she did get on my nerves often рџ‚ But honestly, most YA heroines (especially dystopian ones) get on my nerves. The one thing I didnвЂ™t love was Hollis, ironically. They gave her the time and space she needed to process and consistently reached out a hand to her. They were so kind and welcoming to her, even when she initially was hostile to them. I think probably my favorite part of the book was the friendships Hollis had with her fellow peers. I thought the world was interesting, the plot was exciting, and the characters were fun. ThereвЂ™s something comforting about coming back to the genre that made you a reader, and thatвЂ™s exactly how I felt while reading this book. This was such a throwback to the days of YA Dystopia and I am here for it! YA Dystopia is the reason I came back to reading as an adult and reading The Diseased Ones felt like reconnecting with an old friend, curling up with a cozy blanket and a warm fire, and coming home. Find joy in the ability that makes you who you are, because whatвЂ™s in here, with these people, thatвЂ™s what true life is about. But down here, you can experience family.

Through the stress of jet lag and walking pain, Soto looked up to capture a photograph of the sky and rooftops. During her time there, she started to feel horrible pain while walking and was told she needed hip surgery. Soto explained that she, along with other Biolans, had traveled to Europe to further her studies over the summer. вЂњGod is more than enough despite the suffering,вЂќ Soto said as she described her image. Junior interdisciplinary studies major Kindra Soto, a contributor to the journal, told the audience the story behind her photograph titled вЂњWittenberg.вЂќ Many in the audience were there to support their friends who were reading. Attendees shared each otherвЂ™s company over popcorn and cookies as they listened to what the readers had to say. Selected contributors for the journal walked to the mic and read their piece or explained the meaning behind their images.

Copies of the 2018вЂ“2019 Inkslinger book were free for attendees, along with Inkslinger logo stickers and previously published Inkslinger books from over the years. Surrounded by string lights hung from tree to tree, guests had an array of snacks and beverages to enjoy. rolled around, the eventвЂ™s 32 attendees were greeted with a smile by Theule, and the rest of the clubвЂ™s staff. According to senior studio arts major and club leader Sage Theule, the club believes the power of words and images helps them share little pieces of themselves with one another.

Throughout the year, each member of Inkslinger puts time into reviewing, editing and publishing each written and visual work. Inkslinger combines the efforts of editors, writers and designers. BiolaвЂ™s very own literary journalism club, The Inkslinger, held its annual public reading of literature and visual works created by the club participants, celebrating the release of this yearвЂ™s edition of its literary journal at Sycamore Lawn on April 25.
